The grieving mother of the 15-year-old boy who was senselessly gunned down in a Queens park nearly a week ago ripped Mayor Zohran Mamdani Wednesday for his glaring silence.
“I just think that he should have been there,” Jaden Pierre’s mother, Shanelle Weston, told The Post.
“He’s supposed to spread awareness … just to be there for us. He’s our mayor.”
Weston’s heart-wrenching statements came just hours after Mamdani, in response to questions from reporters, claimed his office was trying to arrange a meeting with the slain boy’s family.
Hizzoner has been slammed over his failure to speak out about the tragic caught-on-video shooting at Roy Wilkins Park in St. Albans on April 16 — and even blowing off the teenager’s vigil on Monday night.
Asked if she would sit down with the mayor now, Weston said, “Yeah, because I want to know what he’s gonna do, what he’s planning on doing about it.”
The tragic teen was part of a crowd that gathered for a harmless water gun fight at around 6:20 p.m. when a bitter gang-fueled beef erupted, police said.
Harrowing video showed the chaotic moments violent teens repeatedly pummeled Pierre before a suspected member of the startup BG4 gang — identified by cops as 18-year-old Zahir Davis — allegedly opened fire.
Pierre, who took a bullet to the chest, collapsed — while his killer ran off. Sources said Davis is since believed to have fled to Jamaica.
“My son was a sweet kid,” his devastated mom said Wednesday. “He was very respectable and he really did not deserve that, he really did not deserve that at all. They were already beating him up. I feel like that was enough.”
Meanwhile, Mamdani’s cold shoulder drew the wrath of former Mayor Eric Adams, who slammed his lefty successor on X.
“A 15-year-old kid was beaten and shot to death at a Southeast Queens playground yesterday. And somehow this isn’t the top story. Credit to [state Attorney General] Letitia James & [Queens Borough President Donovan] Richards for speaking up,” Adams had written on X.
“Where is everyone else, including @NYCMayor Mamdani? Outrage shouldn’t depend on zip code,” the ex-mayor wrote. “Every child deserves protection.”
James and Richards attended the vigil, but Mamdani, who had been invited, skipped it to take part in a WNYC forum celebrating his first 100 days in office.
Mamdani finally tried to address his decision at an unrelated press conference on Wednesday.
“I shared my thoughts on this the other evening where I spoke about the fact that this was heartbreaking and it was heartbreaking,” he told reporters. “Not just for what it means for his family and his friends. I know it was also heartbreaking for so many New Yorkers to watch this video and see others simply witness what unfolded, as opposed to step up to address it.
“And that is also our responsibility as a city government. I know that I have full confidence in the NYPD’s abilities to hold the individual responsible accountable,” he said.
For the dead teen’s sister, it seemed too little, too late.
“He could spread it out more, let more people know,” 17-year-old Nellie Pierre said. “He could’ve put the boy’s name out more, more people could’ve heard the boy’s name. He has more authority to do that.”
