An Oregon woman convicted of killing her ex-husband because she was allegedly jealous of his new life with his new wife has learned her fate.
On Friday, May 1, Reina Jackson, 45, was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for a minimum of 21 years for the 2021 murder of her ex-husband, Dr. Craig Jackson, the Oregon Department of Justice announced in a news release.
Reina was convicted of second-degree murder on April 24, 2026, following a three-week trial.
Craig, a Navy veteran and physician at Bay Clinic in Coos Bay, “served his country, built a career dedicated to caring for people, and was building a new life for himself and his daughter,” Attorney General Dan Rayfield said in a statement, per the release. “What happened to him was brutal and calculated. His family deserved justice, and the sentence reflects the gravity of what was done.”
Craig, 45, was shot and killed at his North Bend home in the early morning hours of August 2, 2021 during a violent home invasion, prosecutors said, KEZI and KCBY reported.
Two men broke into the home he shared with his new wife, according to police, per KEZI. After a scuffle, he was fatally shot.

His murder came amid a “contentious divorce and custody dispute [that] had spanned years” between Reina and Craig, who had been awarded full custody of their daughter Isabella, according to the release.
Reina filed for divorce in 2016, KCBY reported; the couple’s divorce was finalized that year but a bitter custody battle followed.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Reina conspired with two others to carry out the attack, according to the justice department. She was allegedly angry that her ex-husband was starting a new life, prosecutors said.
Before her arrest, Reina withdrew Isabella from school and fled to Guatemala. She was taken into custody in Atlanta, Ga., in June 2023 after returning to the United States.
Isabella has not been in contact with the family since.
Friends remembered Craig as a good father and a surfer, KEZI reported.
Reina’s attorney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
